Year: 2014

Event: World of WearableArt Avant Garde Section Finalist

Inspiration:
The ghostly figure of Isolda embodies the spirit of Winter. She represents the glittering, ice-cold sculptural landscape of a forest buried in snow. Barren but beautiful, and encased in a spiked, skeletal frame, she does not invite approach. Cold and alone, she stands quietly in the landscape.

Materials & Techniques:
Lace, tulle, satin, silk, wire

More Information:
Isolda emerged from a large bag of tulle offcuts from a local bridal designer, simply from the desire to find some use for them.. These were cut into strips, and used to wrap the wire framework created, both strengthening and covering it, and were also bound into shibori spikes and attached. Satin offcuts were given a bubbly texture with a heat gun, and formed most of the dress, as well as decorative pieces over the wirework - also to cover the shoes. Sequinned lace scraps were added to create a sparkling stage presence.
In 2015 she was included in Svenja's collection of work touring around Australia with the Expertise Events Craft & Quilt Show as Guest Artist.
